The Winter Show: New York

Park Avenue Armory, 24 Enero - 2 Febrero 2025

Leon Tovar Gallery is pleased to present “Algo de comer” (1967) by Santiago Cárdenas, "Astrologer's Window" (1969) by Marcelo Bonevardi, and "Seeds 2022x" (2022) by Jaime Miranda-Bambaren for the 2025 Winter Show.  These artist's distinct approaches invite reflection on the intersections of geometry, spirituality, and the nature of representation.

In his body of work, Bonevardi blends a deep understanding of traditional perspective with a lifelong fascination with religious and mystical subjects. His formative experiences, particularly accompying his architect father to various projects, influenced his approach to art. In Bonevardi's work, geometric forms transcend thier mathematical origins, becoming symbolic elements for magical language drawn from geometry.

Jaime Miranda-Bambaren's deep immersion in the art of working with wood, viewing it as a material brimming with life, intimately connecting to humanity. His wood sculptures narrate the interconnectedness of nature, art, and humanity, elevating the material as a conduit for spirital reflection.

Similarly, Santiago Cárdenas challenges the boundaries of visual perception through his enigmatic still lifes, which focus on everyday objects rendered with meticulous percision. His paintings and drawings disrupt the conventional relationship between the viewer and the artwork, refusing to open onto space in the traditional sense, instead inviting a closer, more contemplative engagement with the surface itself.

This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore the diverse ways these artists engage with form, material, and meaning, inviting the viewer to reflect on the deeper, often spiritual, connections embedded in the world around us.
