The artistic output of this rich and varied region has flourished for centuries engendering sophisticated collecting showcased in remarkable institutions. Diego Rivera, Wifredo Lam, and Lygia Pape have been represented in museums and private collections for decades. Today, Latin American art sparks popular interest, inspires major exhibitions in the US and abroad, and breaks records at auction. Yet art from the “margins” remains an innovation. This panel of specialists discusses the category of “art from the Americas” as a specialty, its breadth and diversity, and its changing status in the art world.
